The Moni Jesus Film: Dubbing Has Begun!

Our Moni translation team is hard at work on something extraordinary.

With the help of experts from the Jesus Film Project, they are learning how to dub the entire film—from Indonesian into the Moni language. This is a major leap, not just technologically, but culturally. The team is learning how to sync Moni dialogue to the original film’s lip movements, ensuring that the translation is both accurate and natural for Moni listeners.

This may sound simple, but it involves breaking time into seconds, editing audio with precision, and working entirely on computers—something that would have been unthinkable a generation ago in this region. These are people who once tracked time by the sun and caught beetles with their hands. Now they’re working in digital audio editing software, pecking away on keyboards. The shift is nothing short of remarkable.

The current training is taking place in a building still under construction—no kitchens, no dining rooms, no plush accommodations. Just concrete floors, unfinished walls, and an unstoppable sense of mission. The level of excitement and commitment? Truly off the charts.

Once the script is fully translated and synced, we’ll begin Phase Two: casting Moni speakers for every character in the film—from Jesus to children to the devil. This will require finding people who not only speak Moni fluently but can also read with clarity and emotion to make the film come alive for viewers.

We can’t overstate what this means: For the first time ever, the Moni people will hear the story of Jesus in their own language, through film.
